Shannon up for 'Runaways' role

LOS ANGELES, June 1 (UPI) -- Actor Michael Shannon is in talks to join the cast of the Joan Jett movie "The Runaways," The Hollywood Reporter said.

Shannon was nominated for an Oscar for his work in last year's "Revolutionary Road." His other film credits include "Groundhog Day," "Jesus' Son," "Pearl Harbor," "8 Mile," "Vanilla Sky," "Kangaroo Jack" and "Bad Boys II."

The Hollywood Reporter said Kristen Stewart has been cast as Jett in "Runaways," a film about Jett's groundbreaking 1970s all-female rock group, while Dakota Fanning has signed on to play Jett's bandmate Cherie Curry.

It is unclear what role Shannon would play in the movie, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.
