Washington voices support for Travolta

LOS ANGELES, May 30 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Denzel Washington says he offered support to fellow movie star John Travolta in the wake of the death of Travolta's son.

Washington, who recently worked on the remake of "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" with Travolta, said at a news conference Friday he has spoken with Travolta since the actor's 16-year-old son Jett died in the Bahamas in January, People.com reported.

"Needless to say, he's struggling," Washington said of his "Pelham" co-star. "So more than talking to him, I listened to him, for about two or three hours."

"What can you say, really? Just be there as a friend, because he's such a sweet, sweet person. Our prayers are with (him) and his wife."

Travolta's son reportedly died as a result of seizure while vacationing with his family, People.com said.

Washington said he grew close to Travolta while filming "Pelham," adding his wife Pauletta is also close with the "Pulp Fiction" actor and his wife, actress Kelly Preston.
