BERLIN, May 27 (UPI) -- A 2006 movie loosely based on the real story of convicted killer and cannibal Armin Meiwes can be released in German theaters, a court in Karlsruhe ruled.

The film, starring Thomas Kretschmann and Keri Russell, was released internationally under the title "Grimm Love," but was banned in Germany after a court ruled it infringed upon Meiwes's personal rights.

However, a court this week overturned the earlier decision, paving the way for "Rohtenburg" to open in German theaters, the BBC reported.

Meiwes, a 47-year-old former engineer, was convicted of murder and sentenced in 2006 to life in prison after he admitted partially eating a man he said answered his Internet advertisement seeking someone willing to be eaten.
