'Museum' is No. 1 at the U.S. box office

LOS ANGELES, May 25 (UPI) -- "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" was No. 1 at the U.S. box office the weekend of May 22-24, Rentrak Theatrical said.

The company's Box Office Essentials theatrical box office data collection and analytical service estimated the weekend gross for "Museum" was $53.5 million.

Coming in at No. 2 is "Terminator Salvation" with $43 million, followed by "Star Trek" at No. 3 with $22 million, "Angels & Demons" at No. 4 with $21.4 million and "Dance Flick" at No. 5 with $11.1 million.

Rounding out the top tier are "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" at No. 6 with $7.9 million, "The Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past" at No. 7 with $3.7 million, "Obsessed" at No. 8 with $2 million, "Monsters vs. Aliens" at No. 9 with $1.4 million and "17 Again" at No. 10 with $1 million.

"Terminator" reportedly earned an additional $13 million Thursday, its first day in U.S. theaters.
