NEW YORK, May 21 (UPI) -- Gary Smith has been hired to produce and direct a two-hour U.S. television special called "Super Models Hall of Fame," Jaffe & Co. Inc. announced Thursday.
Smith, who is a seven-time Emmy Award winner, has closed a deal with executive producers Steve Jaffe and Linda Morand, who is herself a former top fashion model.
The program is intended to be a tribute to the super models of the past six decades. It will also serve to set up the "Super Models Hall of Fame" as an annual event, organizers said in a news release.
The inductees will be selected by a panel of publishers, agents, designers, photographers and others in the fashion world.
"The concept for the show started with Morand's Web site, 'MiniMadModSixties,' for which she has collected approximately 19,000 images from the covers of Vogue Magazine and other publications of all of the top models of their respective eras," the producers of the special said in a news release. "A special award will be presented for life-time achievement to a top fashion designer and fashion photographer in the program slated for fall of 2010. Actress and former top fashion model Susan Blakely has been signed by the producers to be one of the hosts of the show."
The news release did not say on what TV channel the special would air.
