NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Cynthia Nixon says she is engaged to her longtime girlfriend Christine Marinoni.

Nixon is a Tony Award winner probably best known for her portrayal of Miranda in the "Sex and the City" TV show and its big-screen follow-up.

E! News said the actress announced her engagement during the weekend's Love, Peace and Marriage Equality rally in New York, which is where she and Marinoni live.

The couple, who reportedly got engaged last month, have been together since 2003. E! News did not say when they plan to exchange wedding vows.

Nixon has two children with her former boyfriend Danny Mozes.
