Festival stage collapse leaves three hurt

HULLAND WARD, England, May 17 (UPI) -- Police in England's Derbyshire county say three people were hurt when a stage collapsed during heavy winds at the Bearded Theory music festival.

Derbyshire police said those hurt Saturday night received medical treatment for back and neck problems, along with a suspected broken wrist and shoulder, The Times of London Online reported Sunday.

Sally Booth, a site manager at the festival in the village of Hulland Ward, credited emergency services for their response to the stage collapse, which she blamed on strong winds.

"It's been raining and windy all day but this was a freak gust of wind that was capable of knocking people over," she said.

"When it happened everybody did what they had to do and more. The emergency services responded very quickly."

The Times Online said while the stage was closed following the collapse, the three-day festival forged on.
