The Hollywood Reporter said Braff, who has been the star of the series since its inception, will help transition the comedy to a new focus.

Specific details regarding the forthcoming set-up for the medical sitcom were not reported.

Also returning to "Scrubs," which aired on NBC for its first seven seasons, are series regulars Donald Faison, John C. McGinley and Neil Flynn.

Actress Sarah Chalke, whose character is the love interest of Braff's lead, reportedly has been asked to remain with the series, but her return is still in question.

The Reporter said actress Judy Reyes, who has played "Scrubs" nurse Carla Espinosa for eight seasons, may return as a guest star.
