LONDON, May 15 (UPI) -- Depeche Mode has been forced to cancel concert dates in Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Croatia, the British band's spokesman said.

The BBC reported the gigs were scrapped because frontman Dave Gahan is undergoing tests after suffering gastroenteritis this week.

The group issued a statement apologizing to their fans for "this inconvenience."

"(We) wish Dave a speedy recovery," the BBC quoted the band as saying in the statement.

Depeche Mode recently released "Sounds of the Universe," their 12th full-length album.
