NEW YORK, May 9 (UPI) -- The son of rap group Run-DMC founding member Joseph Simmons has been arrested in New York for allegedly buying marijuana, police said.

The New York Daily News reported Saturday that Jojo Simmons, 19, was caught buying marijuana from a street dealer.

Police said they caught him while he was rolling a joint in his BMW.

Simmons allegedly put his car into reverse and tried to flee but slammed into a parked car. He then tried to go forward but hit another parked car, police said.

He was charged with attempted reckless endangerment, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and criminal possession of marijuana.

Jojo appears on his father's MTV show "Run's House." He is the nephew of Def Jam Records co-founder Russell Simmons.
