'Cold Case' uses Pearl Jam tunes in finale

LOS ANGELES, May 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. hard rock band Pearl Jam is allowing 16 of its songs to be used on the season finale of CBS Television's "Cold Case," producers say.

It's a coup for the struggling show because the legendary Seattle band has never licensed anything from the huge catalog of its original work for use in television, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

The two-part season finale for "Cold Case," a detective show that's on the bubble for renewal after six seasons, will feature 16 Pearl Jam songs, including several from the reissue of its 1992 debut album "Ten," the Times said. The finale, concerning the murder of a military academy's first female cadet, is set to air Sunday.

"(Pearl Jam) had never granted the use of their library to anyone," "Cold Case" Executive Producer Jennifer Johnson told the Times, but "they opened up their whole catalog to us. We wanted to make sure every song matched what was going on."

"Cold Case" could use a boost from Pearl Jam as it faces cancellation, the newspaper said. However, last week's episode, which also featured the band's songs, reportedly drew nearly 13 million viewers, marking its largest audience in six weeks.
