LOS ANGELES, May 6 (UPI) -- U.S. actress, writer and producer Mindi Kaling says she's looking forward to developing a new comedy series for NBC and Universal Media Studios.

Variety.com reported Wednesday that Kaling has signed a two-year deal worth seven figures.

Although Kaling, 29, will continue to write for "The Office" and appear as bubbly customer service representative Kelly Kapoor on the ensemble comedy next season, she also will be developing another series in which she would star, Variety.com said.

"This is my first step in a Transformers-style way to take over the whole world," Variety.com quoted Kaling as saying. "I've only ever worked for NBC, and I've felt an enormous amount of support from the executives there."

Kaling has also appeared as Richard Lewis's assistant on the HBO comedy series "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and had supporting roles in the films "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Unaccompanied Minors" and "License to Wed."
