Travolta to testify in extortion case

LOS ANGELES, April 28 (UPI) -- Prosecutors in the Bahamas said Tuesday they intend to call U.S. movie star John Travolta as a witness in an extortion case stemming from the death of his son.

Jett Travolta died of a seizure disorder in January at a resort in the Bahamas. He was 16.

A paramedic and a local official have been arrested and charged with allegedly asking Travolta and his actress wife Kelly Preston for $25 million in exchange for keeping documents regarding Jett's death private.

E! News quoted Bahamian Senior Supreme Court Judge Anita Allen as saying she has set the start date for the trial against former Sen. Pleasant Bridgewater and paramedic Tarino Lightbourne for Sept. 21.

Lightbourne and Bridgewater were arraigned together Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to the charges, E! News said.
