BOSTON, April 25 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Leonard Nimoy says fellow actor Zachary Quinto is a good pick to assume the mantle of Spock in a film reboot of "Star Trek."

Nimoy, 78, said the "Heroes" actor's intelligence and appearance made him a strong candidate to fill the role of Spock that Nimoy made famous during the original 1960s "Star Trek" TV series and in ensuing films, The Boston Globe said Saturday.

"Zachary Quinto is a very intelligent actor, and he's serious about his work, and he looks enough like me to make the whole thing work," Nimoy told the newspaper about Quinto's role in the upcoming "Trek" film from director J.J. Abrams.

"He pursued the role. He knew what people told him -- that he looked enough like me to do the job, so he pursued it, and he sought me out for conversation."

The Globe said Nimoy, who confirmed meeting with Quinto on several occasions, used his Spock fame to enjoy a career that has included recording musical albums, writing published poetry and directing Hollywood films like "Three Men and a Baby."

The newspaper said Nimoy is rumored to appear in the new "Trek" film, which is due out May 8.
