MUMBAI, April 19 (UPI) -- The father of Indian actress Rubina Ali allegedly is trying to sell the young "Slumdog Millionaire" star through an illegal adoption, British media reported.

The Sunday Telegraph reported Sunday that Ali's father, Rafiq Qureshi, was quoted as saying in a telephone conversation with an unidentified individual that he would agree to an illegal adoption of his 9-year-old daughter.

"We are considering Rubina's future," Qureshi allegedly said.

Qureshi allegedly details how the makers of "Slumdog" have failed to adequately compensate his family for his daughter's role in the Oscar-winning movie.

"We've got nothing out of this film. They haven't looked after us. They gave some money at the start, but they gave nothing afterward," the father of Ali, who played the young version of the "Slumdog" character Latika, allegedly said.

The father allegedly cited his family's current financial situation as the key for considering adoption, the Telegraph said.

"We live in one room, seven of us sleep on the floor. I earn 2-3 pounds ($3 to $4.45) a day," Qureshi allegedly said. "I have to consider what is best for me, my family and for Rubina's future."
