Boyle wasn't bothered by 'Talent' laughs

NEW YORK, April 18 (UPI) -- Dowdy Scottish singer Susan Boyle says she was not bothered by the restrained laughter she heard before performing on "Britain's Got Talent."

Boyle, 47, said during an interview on CNN's "Larry King Live" that she focused on her performance rather than her appearance while singing "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical "Les Miserables" on the British TV series, CNN reported Saturday.

The "Talent" contestant was the target of muffled audience laughs as she took the stage for her audition because of her unusual mannerisms and frumpy attire.

"That doesn't bother me because I knew I had to get on with my act," Boyle told King during her interview Friday. "I wasn't sure how I would be received, so I just thought I'd give it a whirl."

Boyle proceeded to blow the audience and judges away with her rendition.

"Talent" judge Piers Morgan, who also appeared on "Live" Friday, recognized he was among those laughing at the unemployed charity worker and offered an apology.

"I sort of feel like apologizing to Susan," he said on the CNN series. "I'm sorry, because we did not give you anything like the respect we should have done when you first came out."
