SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 13 (UPI) -- Eminem has agreed to perform live at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards next month at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, MTV said Monday.

The rapper's performance is to take place shortly after the release of his latest album "Relapse," available May 19.

Comedian Andy Samberg is to serve as host of the 18th annual MTV Movie Awards show, which is slated to air May 31.

Presenters and additional performers will be announced at a later date, MTV said.

For the first time in the MTV Movie Awards show history, MTV is letting fans participate in the nominating process. Voting is now open at movieawards.mtv.com, where viewers may help select 2009 nominees from an eligibility list of more than 200 movies.

Nominees will be officially announced May 4.

Viewers will also have the opportunity to vote on the winners online and on their mobile phones. The second round of voting will close May 18, with the exception of best movie which will remain open through the show.
