CATONSVILLE, Md., April 12 (UPI) -- More than 400 people gathered at a car dealership in Catonsville, Md., for a chance to be a contestant on the reality TV series "Survivor," attendees say.

Casey Starshine said she slept overnight at the Catonsville site with her 9-year-old son Uriah in hopes of earning a spot on the CBS series that places contestants in the remote locations with little to no supplies, The Baltimore Sun reported Sunday.

"If we can hack that, we can hack 'Survivor,' absolutely," Starshine said of the pair's rainy overnight stay prior to Saturday's talent search.

Retired Marine Walt Naylor also appeared to view the open audition as an opportunity to prepare for the grueling activities on "Survivor," which recently began its 18th season.

"I arrived here about 23 hours, 15 minutes ago," said Naylor, 62. "I came here to play the game, and the game has begun."

The Sun said "Survivor" producers will review casting tapes from the more than 400 hopefuls before voting on potential contestants for next season.
