LONDON, April 11 (UPI) -- British TV producer Simon Cowell says he is ready to take a pay cut to work with ITV in creating quality programming.

The "American Idol" judge said when his three-year, $29.3 million contract with the British TV network expires at the end of the year, he will focus more on creating quality shows than bigger paychecks, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.

"It isn't about how much I can squeeze out of them. All I worry about is 'Can we make a better show than last year?' I don't believe in making the quality go down," said Cowell, 49.

Cowell also credited ITV with helping his successful TV career, which includes "The X Factor" and "Britain's Got Talent."

"I have a brilliant relationship with ITV and they have been very kind to me. I will never forget the fact that without ITV we would not have launched our shows initially," Cowell told the Telegraph. "So as far as I am concerned I still owe them a debt."

The Telegraph said ITV is expected to seek pay cuts of up to nearly 20 percent annually from its stars to offset declining advertising revenue.
