LONDON, April 10 (UPI) -- The British pop act Pet Shop Boys has declined to change its name to Rescue Shelter Boys at the behest of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

"PETA Europe has written to Pet Shop Boys with a request they are unable to agree to," said a message on the band's official Web site.

However, the posting also said the band thinks PETA's plea "raises an issue worth thinking about," the BBC said.

PETA has been critical of the way pet shops get, care for and house the animals they sell.

Pet Shop Boys released "Yes," its 10th studio album, last month.
