SAN JOSE, Calif., April 4 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Demi Moore helped save a suicidal woman's life through her use of the social networking service Twitter, a communications expert says.
Laura Fitton, a Stanford fellow of the Society for New Communications Research, said Moore helped save a 47-year-old woman who texted her intent to kill herself into a Twitter session for Moore's fans, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported Friday.
"On some level, it probably does make her feel exposed," Fitton said. "But if I were Demi, I would feel incredible right now. A very incidental interaction on her part led to this woman being saved."
The Guardian said after Moore noticed the unidentified woman's suicidal comment, she rebroadcast it to more than 350,000 of her fans on Twitter.
Several of those fans then contacted police in San Jose, Calif., about the woman's plan and authorities soon confirmed they had taken the woman into custody unharmed.
