LOS ANGELES, April 1 (UPI) -- Singer Natalie Cole received dozens of e-mails from prospective kidney donors after she said on U.S. television that she is on a long list for a transplant.

The Grammy Award-winning recording artist and daughter of late performer Nat King Cole was diagnosed with hepatitis C in February 2008. She has previously said she believes she contracted the illness during her battle against cocaine and heroin addiction.

Cole told CNN's Larry King Tuesday night that she is looking for a kidney after both of hers failed following chemotherapy to treat the hepatitis. She now undergoes dialysis three times a week while she waits for a new kidney.

"These are all e-mails from dozens -- dozens of people offering to be tested to see if they can match, who want to give you a kidney," King told a stunned Cole on the air before their interview was over, showing her a stack of printed out e-mails that had flooded the CNN studio.

"There are some great human beings out there. That's all I can say," Cole said.
