Post-Aniston Mayer deems Twitter 'silly'

LOS ANGELES, March 28 (UPI) -- Singer John Mayer, who recently split from U.S. actress Jennifer Aniston, says the social networking service Twitter is "inherently silly."

An unidentified source said the critical Twitter stance from Mayer, 31, comes after the singer was dumped by Aniston due to his persistent use of the networking tool, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.

"Every few hours, sometimes minutes, he'd update with some stupid line," the source said of the reported relationship conflict. "And in her mind, she was like 'He has time for all this Twittering, but he can't send me a text, an e-mail, make a call?'"

Following the couple's break-up, Mayer offered a different take on the popular communication trend that allows users to post constant life updates for interested parties, the British newspaper said.

"It's inherently silly and it's inherently dumb. If you really think that Twitter is the pathway to spiritual enlightenment, well ... it's one step away from sending pictures of your poop," he said.
