LOS ANGELES, March 27 (UPI) -- Welsh-born actor Anthony Hopkins is loosely attached to star in a film Andy Garcia co-wrote and plans to direct about scribe Ernest Hemingway.
The Hollywood Reporter said Garcia also plans to produce "Hemingway & Fuentes," a historical drama he wrote with screenwriter Hilary Hemingway, the late Ernest Hemingway's niece.
The movie is about Ernest Hemingway's relationship with his longtime fishing-boat captain Gregorio Fuentes.
Garcia, who may play Fuentes, said Annette Benning is circling the role of Hemingway's wife Mary Welsh in a film set in the years leading up to Hemingway's suicide, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.
"I'm a Hemingway nut and also an avid fisherman, and the reality of the relationship between Hemingway and his captain is compelling to me," Garcia said.
Hopkins' films include "The Silence of the Lambs," "Nixon" and "Shadowlands."
