Warner Bros. opens its archives

LOS ANGELES, March 25 (UPI) -- Warner Bros. has announced it is releasing thousands of films not available on DVD through a new on-demand service, USA Today reported.

Fans will eventually will be able to order any of the 6,800 theatrical features in the studio's library that are currently unavailable and will receive a custom-made DVD within a week for $20 or be able to get the flicks on their computers digitally for $15, the newspaper said.

"This news is going to make a lot of people really happy," George Feltenstein, senior vice president of theatrical catalog marketing at Warner Home Video, told USA Today.

"Our goal is to eventually open up our entire vault," Feltenstein said. "We've been working on this for three years. I've always said it would be great if people could buy anything in our library, and now the time has come, because the technology finally exists."

So far, only about 1,200 films in the company's catalog have been released on DVD, mainly due to the space constraints of retail outlets.

The Warner Archive Collection has been established online with an introductory slate of 150 films that have never been released on DVD.

The titles include releases from the 1920s through the 1980s such as "Mr. Lucky," "All Fall Down," "Souls for Sale" and "Wisdom," the newspaper said.
