LOS ANGELES, March 21 (UPI) -- Rumors of a possible resurrection of the "Star Trek" science fiction series got new life when U.S. TV writer Bryan Fuller expressed in the idea.
Fuller, who writes for NBC's "Heroes," said with director J.J. Abrams working on another "Star Trek" movie, he was inspired to consider a possible new TV version, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.
"I told my agent and told the people of J.J. Abrams' team I want to create another 'Star Trek' series and have an idea that I'm kicking around," Fuller said. "I would love to return to the spirit of the old series with the colors and attitude."
Following the success of Gene Roddenberry's 1960s "Star Trek" series, the science fiction concept was expanded into five additional TV series and 11 movies, including the forthcoming Abrams work.
The Reporter said the current TV rights to the long-standing media franchise are owned by the CBS Corporation.
