LONDON, March 18 (UPI) -- British soul singer Amy Winehouse has pleaded innocent to a charge of common assault, stemming from an incident in which she allegedly hit a fan.

The incident allegedly happened following a charity ball at which Winehouse performed in London last September. Sherene Flash has claimed Winehouse hit her when asked to pose for a photo.

The BBC said Winehouse appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court Tuesday, accompanied by her father Mitch. She pleaded innocent to the charge and the matter was adjourned until July 23, the British broadcaster said.
