'Spinal Tap' stars plan concert tour

NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) -- Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer are planning a concert tour in honor of their rock mockumentary "This is Spinal Tap's" 25th anniversary.

The New York Post said the trio's six-week-long, acoustic "Unwigged and Unplugged" tour will feature songs from both "Tap" and the faux folk group the Folksmen from the film, "A Mighty Wind," which also starred McKean, Guest and Shearer.

"We're three men of a certain age. We still like playing dress-up and plugging into the big, loud amplifiers, but sometimes it's nice to take the lighter instruments, our own street gear, and get up onstage and play these same, silly-ass songs. It's laziness, but it's not a morally reprehensible laziness," McKean told the Post.

Asked what might happen when the fake rock group Spinal Tap's fans meet devotees of the Folksmen at these gigs, McKean replied: "We never really had that problem, although the last time we played the Beacon (in New York,) we neglected to mention that the Folksmen would be opening for Spinal Tap, so there were some people there who didn't get it.

"So, we had the really unusual experience of being negatively received by the same crowd that couldn't wait to see us," the actor and writer said. "We went off, changed our clothes, came back as Spinal Tap, and the same people were very happy."
