CHICAGO, March 11 (UPI) -- Actor Gary Sinise says the new documentary he produced, "Brothers at War," shows his support of the U.S. military.

Directed by Jake Rademacher, the film is set for U.S. release Friday. It follows Rademacher's two younger brothers as they go off to fight in Iraq.

"This movie is not going to be your typical blood-and-guts, negative, depressing thing about Iraq," Sinise told the Chicago Tribune. "What's great about this film is there's a personal investment, because the filmmaker is making it about his family."

Sinise also criticized some previously released Iraq war movies as "one-sided," "depressing" and "disturbing." He singled out Brian De Palma's controversial 2007 documentary, "Redacted," for particular disdain -- even though Sinise admitted he won't watch the film made by his "Mission to Mars" and "Snake Eyes" director.

"He was out to get the troops, to depict them as child rapists. That's the truth he wanted to tell. That's one particular, horrible episode that happened by, clearly, some criminals who happen to be in the American military," said Sinise, the star of "CSI: New York" and a memorable supporting player in the movie "Forrest Gump."

"There are 150,000 people serving honorably, but Brian De Palma didn't care to show those stories."

The newspaper said De Palma's agent declined to comment for its story.

In addition to backing "Brothers," Sinise also has been taking part in USO tours in Iraq and fundraising events for the troops for years.

"I have a profound respect for people who serve," Sinise told the Tribune.
