LOS ANGELES, March 11 (UPI) -- The new trailer for J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" had more than 1.8 million downloads during its first 24 hours on Apple.com, Hollywood's Paramount Pictures said.

The studio also said Wednesday the trailer has gone on to become the most popular high-definition download ever on the Web site, with more than 5 million downloads in its first five days.

The trailer made its exclusive debut on Apple.com/trailers last Friday, giving fans a sneak peak of this summer's highly anticipated "Star Trek" for viewing on their Mac or PC, iPhone or iPod with video.

Set to open in the United States May 8, "Star Trek" stars John Cho, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Eric Bana and Leonard Nimoy.
