Woman arrested after Goody hammer scare

LONDON, March 9 (UPI) -- A 41-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly wielding a hammer and confronting Jade Goody, the cancer-stricken reality TV star's publicist said.

The terminally ill former "Big Brother" star was lying in her bed Sunday at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London when the woman entered her room, brandishing a hammer and looming over her, The Times of London reported.

"(Goody's husband Jack Tweed) had been with her for a few hours and had gone to get a cup of tea in the canteen when this happened," Goody's publicist, Max Clifford, told the newspaper. "She woke up to find this woman leaning over her. She was not hurt, but was very shaken up, as you can imagine."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said officers were called to the hospital by security.

"Officers attended and a 41-year-old woman was searched and found in

possession of a hammer and was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon and taken into custody at a West London police station," the police spokeswoman said.

The Times quoted police as saying the suspect was eventually released and no further action was expected to be taken against her.
