LOS ANGELES, March 9 (UPI) -- Summit Entertainment has confirmed it cast U.S. actress Dakota Fanning in "New Moon," the sequel to last year's vampire blockbuster, "Twilight."

The 15-year-old movie star is known for her roles in "The Secret Life of Bees," "Man on Fire," "The Cat in the Hat," "War of the Worlds," "Uptown Girls" and "I Am Sam."

The Hollywood Reporter said Fanning will play a sweet, but conniving Jane in the second installment of the film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer's popular books.
