MIAMI, March 8 (UPI) -- Pop star Britney Spears took a break from her Circus tour to visit with sick children at a Miami hospital, a hospital representative says.

Miami Children's Hospital representative Cristene Martinez told People magazine Spears, the mother of two young boys, spent time Saturday entertaining 40 young patients.

"She took pictures with the kids and gave them autographed pictures," Martinez said. "The kids were so excited to meet Britney, and having her here was a great distraction for them."

People.com said Spears, who was in Miami for a Saturday performance at America Airlines Arena, spent nearly half an hour with the ailing kids. The hospital's Big Apple Circus Clown Care program also received an unspecified donation from the 27-year-old singer, Martinez said.
