Carter to play author Blyton for BBC

LONDON, March 7 (UPI) -- British actress Helena Bonham Carter says she will play Enid Blyton in an upcoming BBC movie about the late children's author.

Carter, 42, said she is excited about the script for the BBC production that will bring the British writer's life to TV viewers throughout country, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.

"It's a long time since I have read such a well-written script with as complex and fascinating a character as Enid," Carter said. "I hope I do her justice."

During her notable literary career, Blyton wrote an estimated 800 books, ranging from the "Famous Five" to "Malory Towers."

BBC Four controller Richard Klein, whose network will air the biography this year, told the Telegraph Carter was a perfect choice to play Blyton.

"Enid Blyton is loved across the world as one of the greatest children's storytellers. And yet behind this positive image lies a darker and more conflicted story," Klein said. "I know that Helena will employ all her renowned skills as an actress to bring this story to life."
