LOS ANGELES, March 3 (UPI) -- "The Bachelor" star Jason Mesnick proposed to one woman on Monday night's finale of the U.S. show but he walked away with another at the end of the episode.

The two segments of the dating competition show that aired Monday were shot six weeks apart, People magazine said.

Mesnick earlier confessed he was torn between final contestants Melissa Rycroft and Molly Malaney. He ended up proposing to Rycroft, who gleefully accepted, in the first part of the two-hour finale, but, by the second portion of the show, he appeared to have experienced a change of heart, announcing he wants to be with Malaney, after all.

"Over the last few weeks, I haven't been able to stop thinking about Molly," Mesnick told host Chris Harrison. "If I could change the way I feel … I would do that, but I can't."

After Mesnick broke the news on-air to Rycroft, who left the set, he revealed his feelings to Malaney, who said she would give him a second chance, People magazine said.
