'Guys and Dolls' returning to Broadway

NEW YORK, March 1 (UPI) -- Actress Kate Jennings Grant says the Broadway revival of the classic musical "Guys and Dolls" is like swooping down a mountain slope on skis.

Grant says starring in the latest incarnation of the beloved 1950 musical, written by Frank Loesser, Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling, has been an emotional ride thanks to Loesser's moving score, Playbill.com reported.

"It's like stepping on a magical ski slope and not needing to use poles. You ride the score," said Grant. "It answers all your questions and does all the work for you and transports you emotionally to the next place in the story."

The newest rendition of the comedy musical, which began previews last month and was to premiere Sunday night at the Nederlander Theatre, also stars Oliver Platt, Craig Bierko and Lauren Graham.

Des McAnuff is directing the production. Playbill.com noted the original staging earned five 1951 Tony Awards and ran for 1,201 performances.
