LOS ANGELES, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The daughter of "The Partridge Family" star David Cassidy reportedly will star in the CW's upcoming series "Melrose Place."

The Hollywood Reporter said Friday that Katie Cassidy will play sexy publicist Ella Flynn on "Melrose," a spin-off of the original "Melrose" series that aired in the 1990s.

The new series, which will be directed by David Guggenheim, already has at least one other cast member, with Michael Rady to play aspiring filmmaker Jonah Miller.

The younger Cassidy previously appeared on the TV series "Supernatural" and "7th Heaven" and is to appear on the CBS limited series "Harper's Island."

Meanwhile, another relative of a celebrity is to be in a pilot being put together for the CW. The Reporter said Steven R. McQueen, whose grandfather was the late cinema star Steve McQueen, has joined the pilot "Vampire Diaries." The pilot from screenwriter Kevin Williamson follows two vampire brothers fighting over a young woman.
