JACKSON, Miss., Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Demaris Meyer is suing actor Morgan Freeman in Mississippi federal court for medical expenses and other damages stemming from a 2008 car crash.
Meyer has claimed Freeman was drinking alcoholic beverages before he set out to drive her to his home, losing control of the vehicle along the way and running off the side of the highway, TMZ reported.
Police haven't charged Freeman, who broke his arm and elbow in the mishap, with driving under the influence.
During a news conference Wednesday, Meyer denied rumors that she was the married actor's mistress and said that, although she had agreed to spend the night at Freeman's home, the "Million Dollar Baby" star had offered to let her stay in a house separate from his on his property. She emphasized that she and the actor were just friends.
Freeman reportedly was separated from his wife at the time of the crash.
TMZ quoted Meyer as saying the accident happened on the way to Freeman's place and she suffered a broken wrist and scapula, a torn labrum in her right shoulder and numerous bruises and lacerations.
