LOS ANGELES, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. online movie ticket broker Fandango is inviting fans to pick their favorite film of 2008 from among the year's 10 top-grossing movies.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is to present the Oscar for best picture of 2008 Sunday but Fandango reported that, in a recent poll on its Web site, 81 percent of moviegoers said the academy's picks are out of touch with mainstream film choices. None of 2008's top 10 box office hits ranks among the academy's five best picture nominees.

This year, Fandango is asking fans to vote online through Feb. 27 for the film they think truly deserves the honor as the best movie of the previous year.

Fandango's first Fan Choice Award will be presented April 2 at ShoWest, the world's largest theatrical convention, Fandango said.

The 10 nominees for the ShoWest/Fandango Fan Choice Award are: "The Dark Knight,"

"Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who," "Hancock," "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," "Iron Man," "Kung Fu Panda," "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," "Quantum of Solace," "Twilight" and "Wall-E."
