Suge Knight pleads guilty to battery

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Music producer Marion "Suge" Knight has pleaded guilty in a Las Vegas court to a misdemeanor domestic battery charge.

The plea on Tuesday, which stems from an altercation that took place between Knight and his girlfriend last summer, was part of a deal with the district attorney's office that allowed Knight to avoid being tried on felony charges, The Las Vegas Sun reported. In exchange, prosecutors dropped two felony drug charges and one count of felony coercion.

The hip-hop mogul and co-founder of Death Row Records was sentenced to 48 hours of community service, fined $340 and ordered to attend domestic violence counseling, the newspaper said.

The case was resolved a day after Knight made headlines by getting into a fight with a member of rapper Akon's camp at an Arizona hotel. Knight reportedly fractured bones in his face during the attack. He was not arrested for his involvement in that altercation.
