WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Singer Stevie Wonder will be the guest of honor at a White House event hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama, the president's staff says.

The White House announced Obama and his wife Michelle will be on hand next week in the East Room when Wonder is presented with the Library of Congress's Gershwin Prize for Lifetime Achievement, The Washington Post reported Saturday.

Wonder has previous connections to Obama as the singer's songs "Higher Ground" and "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" became mainstays during the Democrat's presidential campaign. Wonder, 58, also performed at Obama's inaugural concert at the Lincoln Memorial last month.

The Post said next Wednesday's White House ceremony and concert in honor of Wonder will be broadcast the following night as part of PBS's "In Performance at the White House" series.
