LOS ANGELES, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- The film "Slumdog Millionaire" is the winner of the 22nd annual Scripter Award for best film adaptation of a book, the University of Southern California says.
The USC Libraries award honors author Vikas Swarup, who wrote the novel "Q&A" that "Slumdog" is based on, along with screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, who adapted the 2005 book for the big screen, the Los Angeles Times said Saturday.
"Slumdog" beat out "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "The Reader," "Revolutionary Road" and "Iron Man" for the annual award.
The Scripter Award marks the most recent accomplishment for "Slumdog," which has already earned several Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards.
The film from British director Danny Boyle is also considered the favorite to win the best film Oscar this year, the Times said.
Michael Chabon was also honored during Friday's Scripter awards ceremony as the author received the Scripter Literary Achievement Award.
