LOS ANGELES, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Sony Pictures Entertainment has purchased the film rights to "Angelology," a novel about destructive angel/human hybrids, industry sources say.

Variety reported Friday that after the first novel from author Danielle Trussoni was picked up for publication this week, a bidding war for the book's film rights began between various studios.

The final three competitors for the film rights were Sony, Warner Bros. and Universal Studios.

Sony finally landed the rights with a seven-figure deal and now "Angelology" will be produced in part by "Quantum of Solace" director Marc Forster's Apparatus production company.

Variety said "Angelology" should prove to be an effective spiritual thriller thanks to the fact it features references to both mythology and the Bible.
