LOS ANGELES, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Gary Oldman accepted a Screen Actors Guild Award on behalf of the late Heath Ledger, his co-star in "The Dark Knight," at a Los Angeles ceremony Sunday night.
Ledger won the best supporting actor prize for his disturbing portrayal of The Joker in "Knight." Also nominated in the category were Josh Brolin for "Milk," Robert Downey Jr. for "Tropic Thunder," Philip Seymour Hoffman for "Doubt" and Dev Patel for "Slumdog Millionaire."
"I'm quite emotional," Oldman said as he took the stage to collect Ledger's award and found the audience was giving the late actor a standing ovation.
"He was an extraordinary young man with an extraordinary talent and it is wonderful that you have acknowledged that," Oldman said of his co-star, who died Jan. 22, 2008, of an accidental prescription drug overdose. He was 28.
Ledger, who earned a Golden Globe earlier this month, has also been nominated for an Oscar for his work in "Knight."
