CANNES, France, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- The host of the NRJ Awards admits he gave U.S. pop singer Kate Perry the wrong award at the music awards ceremony in Cannes, France.
NRJ Awards host Nikos Aliagas apologized during Saturday's event for accidentally presenting the "I Kissed a Girl" star with a best international song award, the BBC reported Sunday.
The award had been intended to be presented to U.S. singer Rihanna for her hit song "Disturbia."
Instead of taking home the best international song award, Perry legitimately was awarded the NRJ award for best international album prize.
NRJ Radio, a French multimedia group, also recognized French singer Christophe Mae with awards for best French song and best French male performer.
The BBC said French singer Mylene Farmer took home the award for best French album.
Coldplay's Chris Martin and Welsh singer Duffy performed at the event.
