CARACAS, Venezuela, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Complications from guitarist Joe Perry's recent knee surgery have forced his U.S. rock band Aerosmith to cancel an upcoming concert in Venezuela, the BBC said.

Aerosmith were slated to headline Solid Fest in Caracas Feb. 1. The event would have marked Aerosmith's first concert in the South American country.

The band's spokeswoman said in a statement that Perry, 58, had to undergo emergency surgery to treat "unforeseen complications" stemming from the knee-replacement operation he had last March.

"Playing Venezuela was my idea of a perfect way to start the new year," singer Steven Tyler added in the statement. "But having heard Joe had to revisit the hospital this month, the band are truly disappointed we can't be in Caracas and we hope to see everyone there soon."
