LOS ANGELES, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Actor Patrick McGoohan has died in Los Angeles following a short illness, said his son-in-law, producer Cleve Landsberg. He was 80.

Landsberg said McGoohan died Tuesday, The Guardian newspaper reported.

Born in New York, but raised in England and Ireland, McGoohan appeared in the TV shows "Danger Man," "The Prisoner" and "Columbo."

His film credits include "Ice Station Zebra," "Escape from Alcatraz," "Scanners," "A Time to Kill," "Braveheart" and "Treasure Planet."

Wikipedia.org said McGoohan had been mainly retired and living in Los Angeles with Joan Drummond McGoohan, his wife of 57 years, at the time of his death.

In addition to his wife, the actor is also survived by three daughters, five grandchildren and one great-grandson, the Web site said.
