LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Actress Jill Scott revealed at a television critics' event in Los Angeles that she is pregnant for the first time.
While appearing at the Television Critics Association conference Friday, the 36-year-old actress said she learned of the pregnancy shortly before she had to leave for the South African country of Batswana to film a TV show, People magazine reported.
"The first trimester I spent in Botswana," she said. "That was one of the biggest challenges of my life. First trimester! You're sick every morning. It was seven hours time difference, the heat, the bugs, the 14-hour days."
Scott, who has also enjoyed a successful singing career, said she was glad she went through with her plans to film HBO's "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" in Botswana.
"My doctors gave me a clean bill of health and said you can do this, so I did it," she told People.
The magazine said Scott is engaged to drummer Lil' John Roberts.
