LOS ANGELES, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Reese Witherspoon was named favorite female movie star at the People's Choice Awards show in Los Angeles Wednesday night.

"Thank you so much. This is such a great way to start the new year," Witherspoon, who starred in "Four Christmases," said as she collected her prize.

Will Smith won the favorite male movie star and male action star awards, while Angelina Jolie took the favorite female action star gong and her real-life partner Brad Pitt won the favorite leading man honor. Tina Fey was named favorite funny female star.

Smith, Fey, Jolie and Pitt were not at the televised awards show to collect their awards in person.

"Wall-E" was named favorite family movie and "27 Dresses" nabbed the favorite movie comedy title.

"This is awesome," "Dresses" star Katherine Heigl declared. "You guys are amazing. We had the most amazing and fun time making this movie."

Kate Hudson took home the statuette for favorite leading lady, and "The Secret Life of Bees" won the prizes for favorite movie drama and independent movie.
