LONDON, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. pop star Madonna is the star of Louis Vuitton's sexy new advertising campaign, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Photos for the ads were taken by Steven Meisel, the same photographer who snapped the pictures for Madonna's controversial 1992 book, "Sex," the newspaper said.

"Madonna is glamorous. She has a global image. She's the ultimate performer and businesswoman, and not someone who is just a famous singer," said Antoine Arnault, Louis Vuitton's communications director. "She has traveled. She has tried to change things."

Marc Jacobs, the fashion house's creative director, said the idea of having Madonna appear in Louis Vuitton's ads struck him after he saw her perform live in Paris.

"I just blurted out, 'I think we should do Madonna,'" he told the Telegraph. "I was totally just blown away by it, and moved by her performance, by what she had to say, and her energy."

The newspaper said the campaign features six images set in what appears to be a smoky French bistro. One photo shows her clad in fishnet stockings, underwear, high heels and a jacket, while another features her in a 1940s-style ensemble.
